At Evolve Technik, we take immense pride in pushing the boundaries of performance tuning. Our recent project involved a brand new Volkswagen 5N Tiguan R, running the potent EA888.4 motor, which we transformed into a formidable yet understated family car through a comprehensive Stage 4 upgrade.

Unleashing the Beast Within: The Upgrade Process

The foundation of this transformation lies in the series of meticulously chosen upgrades. Each component was selected to enhance the vehicle’s performance, handling, and overall driving experience.

Upgrades Included:

• KW Height Adjustable Spring Kit (HAS): Providing adjustable ride height and improved handling.
• Wagner Intercooler: Ensuring optimal charge air cooling.
• ArmaSpeed Carbon Intake: Enhancing airflow and engine response.
• GT2563S Turbo Charger Garrett Powermax Turbo Upgrade: Delivering significant power increases.
• Custom Stage 4 ECU Tune & Stage 2 TCU Tune: Maximising the potential of the new hardware.

Overcoming Challenges: The SIMOS19.3 ECU

One of the most significant challenges we faced was working with the SIMOS19.3 ECU, which has limited map packs and DAMOS files available. Our solution involved reverse engineering maps from a SIMOS19.6 ECU to extract the additional performance required. This painstaking process allowed us to unlock the true potential of the Tiguan R, ensuring a seamless integration of all upgraded components.

Power and Performance: The Results

After completing the upgrades and fine-tuning the ECU and TCU, the Tiguan R recorded an impressive 289kW and 511Nm at all four wheels. This translates to an estimated 490PS at the motor. We believe there's even more potential to be unlocked, with over 500PS achievable through the addition of Water Methanol injection or a High-Pressure Fuel Pump upgrade once available.

Turbocharger Specifications

The GT2563S Turbo Charger Garrett Powermax Turbo is a critical component in our Stage 4 upgrade, featuring:

• Complete assembly with calibrated electric actuator for OE fitment.
• Turbo capability of 550BHP | 410kW (with on-vehicle results at 520BHP | 383kW with a conservative tune).
• +20% compressor flow and +37% turbine flow compared to the OE turbo.
• Customized modern compressor wheel aero and modern gasoline turbine wheel aerodynamics, constructed of Mar-M alloy rated for up to 1050°C.
• Stainless steel turbine housing rated for up to 1050°C.
• Fully machined speed sensor port and integrated thrust bearing, reinforced for the application.
